Frequently Asked Questions

Where Is the church located?

The church is located at 6219 Forest Hills Rd, Rockford, IL 61114. You will pull into the drive way and up a small hill. We have plenty of space for parking in our parking lot!

What times are services?

Sunday School for all ages starts at 9:30am, followed by Sunday Morning Worship at 10:45am. Sunday Evening Worship begins at 6pm.

*On the first Sunday of every month, a potluck lunch will follow the morning worship service. All are welcome to join! Evening worship will begin after lunch at 1:30pm.

What is worship at Providence like?

Most people would refer to our style of worship as "traditional." In our services, we sing a variety of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. We follow a reformed order of worship, which consists of a call to worship, prayer, reading and preaching of Scripture, and lots of singing. The Lord's Supper is held the first Sunday of the month in our morning service.

What should I wear?

We invite guests to wear whatever they are comfortable in. Members of our church dress in a variety of ways - some wear suits, others wear a polo or button-up with khakis or jeans. Women wear dresses, skirts, or pants.

Is the building handicapped accessible?

Yes, we have a ramp entrance which leads to the front doors. Inside, a chairlift can help you access the sanctuary upstairs and the fellowship hall in the lower level.

Is there a nursery?

Yes! We have a nursery space available in the lower level. There is a comfortable rocking chair to sit in and a pack-and-play available.

Are babies and young children allowed in the worship service?

We are a pro-family church, which means that we prioritize all of our covenant children being present throughout the whole worship service as able. There is something special about being able to worship together as a whole family! We understand that this means children may make some noises - and we welcome that as part of being a covenant community. If needed, we also offer a nursery for parents in the lower level where a livestream of the service can be accessed. Additionally, we have a changing table in the bathroom in the upper level.

What Sunday School classes are available?

We offer Sunday School curriculums for all ages! Our Sunday School hour starts at 9:30am. The adults meet upstairs for Sunday School. Downstairs, we have a curriculum in place for children's Sunday School and the high-schoolers attend a class on the Westminster Shorter Catechism.

Can I partake of the Lord's Supper?

We welcome all those who have been baptized and made public profession of faith in a Reformed or evangelical church and are members in good and regular standing in that church to partake in the Lord's Supper with us. If you have questions about whether this includes you, feel free to talk to Pastor Brian or one of the elders before or after the service.

How do I become a member?

We're excited that you are considering the next step of becoming an official member of Providence OPC!

If you would like to become a member, please speak with Pastor Brian or an elder. They would be able to share more details with you about what church membership looks like. Typically, becoming a member of the church involves meeting with Pastor Brian, who will lead you in a class on Christian doctrine. You would also meet with the elders to give your testimony and affirm your Christian faith.
